the original scan which really didn't look as if there was much colour or detail available in the image


crop, adjust levels and add one or two blending layers


there are a lot of blemishes and a circular marking on the boy's face


remove blemishes and markings


the final image


So starting with something that didn't look at all promising, we actually end up with quite a pleasing result...
